#PK movie review

Thanks to the controversy I ended up watching the movie #PK.  Had there been no controversy the movie would have failed miserably.  It’s abysmal as compare to “Rang De Basanti” or “Three Idiots” starring the great Amir Khan.  The message it’s claiming to showcase is not a genuine effort.  It doesn’t even come close to the movie “OHM! – Oh My God” starring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.  Below are the 3 misgivings of the movie.

  • Love for Pakistan.  This has been the case with quite a few actors.  Irrespective of terrorist attack they keep helping Pakistan’s cause.  Any why not, given the huge vocal moderate (illiterate) class with short memory and unaffected by terrorism they don’t care. Assuming genocide and rapes of 3 million Bengalis in 1971 or of 1000s of Kashmiri Pundits in 1980s is in distant memory for Indians; they even don’t care of recent election results where all the Kashmir seats have gone to PDP (representing Muslims) and all the Jammu seats to BJP.
  • Excessive criticism of Hindu rituals.  The movie does make fun of Christianity and Islam to show as if “equal” treatment is meted out to all religions.  But unfortunately they continue to harp on Hindu rituals all throughout.  Would they care to research and post documentary on the original purpose of the ritual?  Would they care to constructively explain what’s genuine and what’s excessive (materialistic)?  Big NOOO.  They main aim is mockery of India’s “current” majority population and earns mullahs (I mean moola). Otherwise how does one explain the PK movie not being banned while the Da Vinci Code being banned in India (not in West) with only handful of protest?  There is something strategically masterminded that majority population has / is failing to realize. And that’s because the Hindu religion does not have the fire similar to what the world saw when the Danish cartoonist published Muslim cartoon (#DanishCartoon).  For modern audience seated at safe distance keep in mind that things that may be irrelevant or not worth fighting for in your case; may not be the case for not modern / local population at ground zero.
  • Forget Historical Ram Temple.  This one was personally very offense to me.  Towards the end the movie conveys to forget the construction of Shri of Ram Temple at His birth place and live in harmony.  This is same as asking Muslims or Christians to forget their holly sites in Middle East.  Assuming that typical Hindus may be ready to forget our own faith, what should we make up of Kashmir results?  Stretching it little too far, and based on how East and West Pakistan were created it could turn into the question of Hindus survival.
Thanks for reading.
I look forward to constructive, non-philosophical responses from believers of Humanity.
